3 Video Games That Should Be TV Shows

Anyone who is an avid gamer will tell you that some of the best story adaptations come in the form of video games, and the recent release of the Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime is a great example. The Fallout series follows a growing trend in the adaptations of games following the likes of The Last of US and Super Mario Bros. Similar to Fallout, there are so many video games that have an immersive storyline that must be adapted to the big screen. Here are my five favorite options.

  1. Red Dead Redemption

There are currently two games in the Red Dead Redemption storyline with the most recent being Red Dead Redemption 2 which was released in the fall of 2018. With over 60 million copies of the game sold it is evident that any form of adaptation of this game would be an instant hit. Set in the Wild West, the game follows a group of outlaws on the run from authorities who face themes of loyalty and morality with their fair share of gun fights. The game has countless dramatic moments that will make a show writer's life easy.

    2. Overwatch

Similar to Red Dead Redemption there are two versions of the game's catalogue and an extremely passionate fan base alongside it. Overwatch is set in a futuristic world and follows the battles of a superhero organization against a terrorist group known as the Talon and an army of omnics. The game is a first-person shooter in a team deathmatch style but has its own storyline that can easily be implemented. There is a large range of characters throughout the series making possibilities endless. Overwatch is an animated game, and an animated adaptation would be best.

3. Grand Theft Auto V

Arguably the best video game of all time, Grand Theft Auto V is the most recent version of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and is by far the most popular. With almost 200 million copies sold worldwide, Grand Theft Auto V would undoubtedly be the most anticipated film/TV adaptation of a video game ever. The game has a satirical view of the modern world and would be a fantastic cinematic experience filled with volatile displays of America both politically and socially.

These 3 games are merely some of my personal favorite storylines that I would like to be adapted but there are hundreds of other great games that would make for a brilliant on-screen adaptation. Games like Baldur's Gate 3, Dark Souls, and Assassin's Creed are other honorable mentions that were very close to making the list. Video game adaptations are not always the easiest or most successful, however, if other franchises follow the steps of Fallout who is to say these games would not be must-see TV.

  1. Hey Omar! So glad to see someone post a video game content on our blog! :)) As a (cozy) gamer, I love RPGs! However, just like you my partner loves RDR2!
